Kenia Landa, who was born in Cuba and lives in Hialeah Gardens, appeared before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Mindy S. Glazer on Monday morning, records show.

“You were arrested for bookmaking, renting a house for purposes of gambling, and also acting as a keeper or agent of a gambling house,” Glazer told Landa in court.

Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Landa, 52, and Beatriz Vichot on Saturday night at the Galaxy Arcade, at 12218 SW 8 St., in the Tamiami neighborhood.

The arcade served “no legitimate purpose other than facilitating illegal gambling with cash payouts,” a M-DCSO deputy wrote in the arrest reports.

Two undercover deputies responded to the arcade with $50 each to spend on gaming machines, and their goal was to get “an illegal payout,” according to the arrest reports in the case.

Vichot, 60, told the undercover deputies that had they shown up earlier, she would have given each of them an extra $10 to gamble as part of a weekend promotion, and if they had 10 people, they would be able to play Bingo, according to deputies.

Deputies reported Vichot was the only one working at the arcade, and she issued the cash payouts. Landa responded to the arcade when deputies asked questions, according to the arrest report.

Landa and Vichot both faced charges of bookmaking, gambling house employee, and possession of a gambling device. Landa also faced a charge of renting a house for the purpose of gambling.

Glazer set Landa’s bond at $3,650. Vichot’s bond was $3,150. Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Laura Stuzin was set to preside over both cases.
